These kinds of devices are sometimes engineered by the improviser and sometimes subconscious. It is this kind of thing that can somehow make a solo have a shape or feel like it is unfolding a story. So for example, you might be able to spot a melodic or rhythmic fragment that repeats or develops on something that was played earlier. In many ways this is easier with a written down transcription because you may not have a good enough memory to listen to a phrase at 3m 38sec and tie it in with what was played at the beginning. So what do you need to do? Transcribe and Analyse!Ī solo analysis doesn’t need to be a heavyweight academic thesis, but it does need to look at various aspects of a solo in some depth. I believe that neither writing down a solo nor learning it by ear is the complete answer, or even close to the complete answer unless you also understand the creative process that is going on to create that solo. But then you are merely repeating somebody else’s music rather than creating your own. This would of course mean you are in more of a position to play (live) what they played and so possibly get a bit closer to improvising. I’ve also heard it said that rather than writing down the solo, it’s much better and more useful to learn to play it by ear. Well, you would learn the notes and licks they are playing for sure, but does that mean you can then improvise? Or understand the concept behind the solo or the story they are telling? Surely this is how you learn what they are playing? This means listening to and writing down someone’s improvised solo. One of the most common pieces of advice we see regarding learning to improvise is about the importance of transcribing. Transcribing is of course useful, but it can be so much more useful. Eurex launched daily expiries for options on the Euro Stoxx 50 index in August. Recent moves by Nasdaq’s rival Eurex, which is owned by Deutsche Börse, suggest the zero-day trend is starting to gather momentum in Europe too. The new expiries were approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission. That’s why we’ve taken this measured step forward.” “There are lots of different use cases for short-dated options . . . all the evidence says the risk profile of the trade is contained because of the deep liquid ecosystem. “We see this phenomenon servicing all types of investors,” said Ferrari. In August of this year, zero-day options accounted for 50 per cent of overall S&P 500 options volume, according to exchange group Cboe, compared with 5 per cent in 2016.Įxchanges and market makers have pushed back against claims that zero-day trading could cause volatility and have disputed the popular image of it as a market dominated by retail gambling. “When investors are trying to precisely manage their exposure, having a defined product that expires on same day as the event itself is exactly what they are clamouring for,” he said. Options tend to become cheaper the closer they are to expiry, so adding more days of the week on which contracts expire reduces costs for investors.įerrari said Nasdaq hopes to add more contracts expiring on different days of the week over time if the options prove to be popular. The new listings will make it easier to zero-day trade by adding contracts that expire on Wednesdays, in addition to the existing Friday expirations. Greg Ferrari, Nasdaq’s head of exchange business management, said investors were looking for ways to take positions around risky events such as Federal Reserve meetings. Several industry executives said they expect more US exchanges to follow suit with additional options on ETFs that do not track a specific index now that Nasdaq’s has been approved by regulators. However, Nasdaq’s move is the latest sign that exchange groups are betting that zero-day trading will become a longer-term trend across different assets. Initially viewed as a temporary phenomenon driven by speculative retail traders, the surge sparked concern among some analysts and regulators that it could create systemic risk by exacerbating market moves. Zero-day trading in options tied to the S&P 500 index boomed in popularity during the coronavirus pandemic. Trading a contract on the day it expires is known as zero-day trading and can be used to bet on or hedge against extremely short-term market moves. Options contracts give investors the right to buy or sell an asset at a fixed price by a given date. Nasdaq this week listed a series of new options contracts tracking some of the most popular exchange traded funds investing in gold, silver, natural gas, oil and long-term Treasuries. Trading in a controversial type of derivative known as “zero-day” options is spreading to Treasury and commodity markets, as Nasdaq and other exchange groups try to replicate a boom that has transformed trading in US stock indices. I've already been through the CHpower site. Steve - here's some of the data you asked for: The unit is a Campbell Hausfeld "Extreme Duty" HS2810. No gage on the intercooler (that would be nice) just the tank. UncaJ - good idea about the mechanics stethescope - thanks, I'll try that to see which cylinder to look into first. Are other items like rings and bearings normally replaced at the same time? I'm assuming I'll need both a valve kit and replacement gaskets. Having never rebuilt a compressor, my question is what parts are normally replaced? Just what turns out obviously bad upon opening it up? I'd intend to run this for, hopefully, decades more at mostly light weekend duty. The tank had a few tablespoons of slightly rusty water in it when I bought it, but no evidence of blown-by oil in the mix. Judging from the previous owner's other tools, I'd assume this unit was frequently but not professionally used - maybe 20 hours a week or so. There's a bit of air pulsing out the breather cap when running. I'm assuming the first stage valves are likely bad, since it does reach full second stage pressure.Įxternally, the unit is very clean, the filter is in excellent shape, and their are no audible air leaks when shut down or visible air leaks in gasket areas when running. The compressor reaches full pressure (175 psi), but takes forever (well, ten or fifteen minutes) to reach pressure (80 gallon tank). I recently picked up a ten year old 2 stage compressor to get a bit more air. Faced with an atmosphere that Rifkin later described as "like an insurrection", PBS ultimately relented. By the time of the yearly member stations' meeting, station executives across the country were up in arms over the prospect of one of their most popular shows being canceled. The Lyons Group, meanwhile, sent out notices through the Barney Fan Club, telling parents to write letters and make phone calls to their local PBS stations to show their support for Barney & Friends. When Rifkin and other CPTV executives learned this, they wrote letters to their fellow PBS member stations urging them to get PBS to reconsider. Īlthough the show was a runaway hit, PBS initially opted not to provide funding beyond the initial 30-episode run. The series was produced by CPTV and Lyrick Studios (later bought by HIT Entertainment). The show debuted as Barney & Friends in 1992. Franklin and Rifkin convinced Leach to let CPTV revamp the concept for television. Franklin and Rifkin pitched the idea to all of their colleagues with preschoolers, and they all agreed that kids would love a Barney show. He pitched it to CPTV president Jerry Franklin, whose preschool son also fell in love with it. Rifkin thought Barney had appeal because he was not as neurotic as Big Bird. Rifkin thought the concept could be developed for PBS. One day in 1991, the daughter of Connecticut Public Television executive Larry Rifkin rented one of the videos and was "mesmerized" by it. The first three videos starred actress Sandy Duncan. Leach then brought together a team who created a series of home videos, Barney & the Backyard Gang, initially released in 1988. She came up with the idea of a children's program after noticing that her son outgrew Wee Sing Together, and then recognizing that there were no videos to appeal to her son. Barney has also received immense praise from parents for being a wholesome yet engaging show for children that delves into common, kid-friendly topics.īarney was created by Sheryl Leach of Dallas, Texas. The anti-Barney phenomenon is the basis of the 2022 Peacock documentary I Love You, You Hate Me. While popular with its intended audience, Barney drew severe negative reaction from the older set, who mocked the title character in popular culture through song parodies and comedy routines such as being beaten up by NBA star Charles Barkley on a Saturday Night Live episode. On October 18, 2019, Mattel Films announced that a second Barney film was to be produced British actor Daniel Kaluuya's production company was involved. In 2015, a revival was announced to premiere in 2017 but was delayed into an undated launch until being re-announced as a CGI-animated series in February 2023. Reruns aired on Sprout from 2005 to 2015, and from December 17, 2018, onward on Sprout's successor network, Universal Kids. The series ended on November 2, 2010, although new videos were still released on various dates after the last episode aired. The series first aired on PBS on April 6, 1992, and features Barney, a purple anthropomorphic Tyrannosaurus rex who conveys educational messages through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, huggable and optimistic attitude. It showcases Radnor's vocal ability stunningly as well as the show's creativity when it comes to musical performances in a sitcom that is not a musical.Barney & Friends is an American children's television series targeted at children aged 2–7, created by Sheryl Leach. This moment is shattered by Barney suggesting they go to a strip club, highlighting the show's good balance between humorour and endearing moments. It ends with them back at MacLaren's bar, both dreamily looking off into the distance. These set changes often coincide with the lyrics, such as the " served up on a silver plate" line when they're at the dinner table. The performance involves background actors, greenscreens, props, and moving sets to situate Barney and Ted in different locations. The romantic melody perfectly matches its topic and Ted's character, since he favors big gestures when in a relationship. Ted suggests how to woo her on a "superdate" by suddenly breaking into song with a musical accompaniment. In "Of Course," Barney tries to get a woman, Anita (Jennifer Lopez), to sleep with him after he finds out she wrote a book that details how to avoid men who manipulate women for sex, like Barney famously does. |
